Kids, now a days, love chicken nuggets. I hate processed food. The amount of salt and harmful chemicals used to preserve this kind of food makes me cringe. That being said, I have a husband who loves everything that is unhealthy and processed. When I married him, I remember the freezer would be stuffed with chicken nuggets. I absolutely hated it! Being in health care makes you realize the value for home cooked food even more. So I decided to make them at home for him. You know exactly what is going in the chicken nuggets and can let your family enjoy them worry free. Besides, these are way more flavorful than the store-bought chicken nuggets. You can make a fresh batch and freeze them. When ready to serve, just warm them in the oven. They make a great snack and tiffin item.
What you will need:
Ingredients | Quantity |
---|---|
All Purpose Flour | 4 tablespoons |
Breadcrumbs | 3/4 cup |
Chicken Mince | 1 pound |
Cilantro/Coriander Leaves | 1/2 cup |
Garlic | 60 grams |
Ginger | 10 grams |
Oil | 2 cups for frying |
Pepper | 1/2 tablespoon |
Salt | 1/2 tablespoon |
How to make it:
- In a food processor, add minced chicken, salt, pepper, cilantro, garlic, ginger and bread crumbs.
- Pulse until everything is mixed well.
- Take a little amount of the mixture and roll them into balls. Now press them down to flatten them. You can shape them using moulds to make fun and interesting shapes for your kids.
- Coat the nuggets with flour. You can also dip them in egg and apply another coating of breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs do soak extra oil so I avoid this step.
- Heat oil for deep-frying. Once the oil is hot, add the nuggets and fry till golden brown.
- Remove on a paper towel to drain any excess grease.
- Enjoy hot with a schezuan dipping sauce or ketchup!
