Coconut chutney is unique to the the coastal regions of India. There are many ways to make it, however, all those ways are usually savory. We Goans like our chutney to be a combination of sweet, spicy, salty and sour! Well, that is umami! We like it with our bread, dosa, chapati for breakfast, as a party snack, in our lunch box or for a light dinner. I am sharing my mom’s recipe for this chutney which one of my friends described as “highly addictive!”
What you will need:
Ingredients | Quantity |
---|---|
Cilantro/Fresh Coriander | 1/2 cup |
Coconut | 1/2 cup |
Garlic (optional) | 1 clove |
Green Chili | 1 |
Salt | 1/4 teaspoon |
Sugar | 1 teaspoon |
Tamarind | 3 inch |
Water | 3/4 cup |
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 6
How to make it:
- In a mixer take coconut, coriander, tamarind, garlic and water.
- Tip: I am not a fan of the strong smell or taste of raw garlic. I like to roast my garlic over an open flame and that seems to be more palatable for me. If you do not like garlic, skip it and it will still taste equally good.
- Grind into a fine paste.
- Add salt, sugar and mix well.
- Enjoy!
