Cashew Modak

Cashew Modak

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations are incomplete without modak. Cashew modaks were mostly store-bought when I was growing up in Goa. Regardless, they were one of my favorites. The lack of their availability here forces me to make them on my own every year. The recipe is simple and with only 3 ingredients. Make these and offer to Lord Ganesha and of course, enjoy with your loved ones as well. 🙂

What you will need:

IngredientsQuantity
Cashews250 grams
Ghee1/2 tablespoon
Powdered Sugar40 grams
Saffron (optional)a few strands
Total Time: 30 minutes
Serving: Makes 11 modaks

How to make it:

  • Grind the cashews into a fine powder in a mixer. You may notice that the cashew powder starts to turn into a dough. That is OK.
  • Remove this cashew powder from the mixer. Add to a plate and add powdered sugar into it.
  • Add ghee and knead into a smooth dough.
  • Divide into 11 equal parts.
  • Begin to shape into modaks, adding a few strands of saffron while shaping.
  • Refrigerate for 15 minutes before serving.
  • You can enjoy these for up to 2 weeks if stored in the fridge.
