Goan Rose Tea

Goan Rose Tea

Rose Tea is something unique to Goa. It is a popular evening time drink, mostly among the south Goans. I wasn’t much of a tea drinker growing up. Tea was reserved for the times I would feel under the weather. Cream cracker biscuit and a cup of this warm tea would soothe the congestion and sore throat. I had cousins who would drink this tea every morning!

I am not quite sure how this fragrant tea found its way to Goa. But I know that there are few local favorite stores that most Goans buy it from. My friend, Xanti Pinto, was kind enough to share some tea leaves with me. I made this to surprise Mayur this morning for Valentine’s day. It is cold here today so it was a tea in bed kinda Valentine’s Day. Next time you plan a trip to Goa, ditch the booze and try this local drink instead 🙂

What you will need:

IngredientsQuantity
Rose Tea 1/3 teaspoon
Sugar2 teaspoons
Water2 cups
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 2

How to make it:

  • Heat water in a vessel.
  • Add the rose tea leaves and sugar.
  • Let it all come to a boil.
  • Strain and serve hot!
