Dry Fruit Modak

Dry Fruit Modak

It is that time of the year again! Time to welcome Bappa into our homes, for families to meet, and for a lot of food! And when we talk about food, no Chaturthi is complete without Bappa’s favorite, modak. I try to make something different every year when it comes to modak, and this time it was dry fruit modak. A healthy version for all the health-conscious people out there. Enjoy!

What you will need:

IngredientsQuantity
Cashews100 g
Pistachio60 g
Dry Figs150 g
Dates350 g
Almonds150 g
Ghee2 tablespoons
Edible Gum (Gondh)20 g

Prep time: 15 min

Cook time: 15 minutes

Time to make modak: 15 min

Servings: Makes 21 Modak

How to make it:

  • Heat ghee in a kadai. Add the edible gum and let it fluff up. Tip: Keep the kadai to complete the rest of the process.
  • Once cooled, add to a food processor.
  • Add all the nuts to the food processor as well.
  • Pulse until the nuts are coarsely ground.
  • Remove this and add to the kadai.
  • Add figs and dates to the food processor and make a fine powder/paste. Tip: Use sticky black dates for this recipe.
  • Add the figs to the kadai as well.
  • Now, on a very slow flame, roast the mixture. The nuts will release their natural oils, and the mixture will start to come together. If needed, sprinkle a little water.
  • Let the mixture cool until it is easy to handle.
  • In a modak mold, add some of the mixture and form modaks.
  • Offer to Bappa and enjoy the rest with your friends and family.
