Get to Know Us

Us

Welcome to our blog! It is amazing when two people who share the same passion come together. We both grew up with a love for food and a desire to see the world. We come from the most pristine and serene part of India, which is Goa. Hence, our love for fish, the beach, and the sun. We have been fortunate enough to have traveled through most of the USA, and a few countries around the world. Food mostly is what guides our travels!

Someone rightly said, “Travel leaves you speechless, and then turns you into a storyteller.” Through our blog, nomadic tadka, we wish to share our travel stories and food adventures. It is a way for us to relive some of our past moments revolving around food, and hear your experiences as well with food and travel. After all, just like a tadka or tempering enhances the flavor of a dish, travel enhances one’s life and turns you into a humble being. It makes you realize that you are nothing but a part of a big human family with food being the universal language.

About Tanavi

Hi! I am Tanavi! I was lucky to have grown up in a household that had access to some very traditional Goan recipes cooked by my mom, aunts, and grandma. Not only that, I was blessed to also have enjoyed sophisticated, multinational cuisines prepared by my dad and uncle who were in the hospitality business. So as you can see, the love of food was instilled in me from an early age. I still remember, every time I watched the travel and food channels while growing up, I dreamed of going to those places and tasting that yummy food they displayed.

Fast forward a few years, life caught up, and I got busy with studies. Somewhere in those few years, that child who marveled at food and travel was lost. Then something wonderful happened! I met my better half, Mayur, with whom I live in the USA. Luckily, he also shared my passion for food and travel! Talking about the USA, it was the move there that intrigued my interest in cooking. I never needed to cook before the move. Why would I? I had such amazing cooks in my family at my disposal.

I was forced to take up cooking for the lack of good soul food around where I lived. After reading countless food blogs, phone calls, and online surfing, here I am today! A person who not only loves to eat but also to cook. I love experimenting with new ingredients and trying different cuisines. However, my deep love for preserving Goan traditional recipes is one main reason I wanted to start a blog. I believe no matter where you go, you should never forget where you came from. With these fast-changing times, we are losing our culinary traditions. I hope my humble attempt helps in preserving some of it at least!

My love for travel was also instilled in me since childhood. Both my parents love to travel and made sure that we went on a vacation every year! Mayur and I had traveled most of the USA and I loved every bit of it. However, when I went to Iceland on my 30th birthday, I knew I needed to explore this world and it almost felt like I had found my calling! We both believe in living in the moment and enjoying what we have now! It was a mutual decision to explore as much as we can while we are young. I hope this blog encourages you all to explore our beautiful world as well!

About Mayur

Hello folks! I am Mayur! Even though I was not lucky enough to grow up in Goa, I did grow up with good food in the Middle East. If I had to describe myself in terms of food, I would call myself a very adventurous eater. I was lucky to have found someone who encouraged me to try new foods and never stopped me from exploring! It is a plus that she cooks good food too 😉

Ever since I moved to the USA, I fell in love with traveling and exploring new places. When I visit a new place, I ensure that I see not just the tourist attractions, but also the sites popular among the locals as well. Mingling with the locals, getting a taste of their lifestyle, eating local food, is the kind of travel that entices both of us. If you truly want to experience a place, experience it through the eyes of those who live there! Combining our passion for food and travel in one place and moreover documenting these lovely memories is the reason we wanted to start a blog. I hope this blog challenges you to try something new at your next dinner or travel to an unknown place on your next holiday! Cheers!
