Chibdel/Mogem

Chibdel

Called “mogem” in South Goa and “chibdel” in North Goa, this simple dessert is sure to leave you salivating. Mogem is a variety of melon found in Goa during the monsoons. It does not have much flavor but just a mild floral aroma and is mildly sweet. My favorite way to eat this melon is to add sugar and lemon to it. This is one of the quickest desserts you can make!

  • Add lemon juice and sugar. You can substitute sugar with jaggery.
  • Mix well and let it sit for at least one hour. The fruit will ooze out water.
  • I love it chilled! But you can serve it at room temperature as well.
