Tres leches is an absolutely delightful cake from Mexico. It is made with three types of milk, condensed, evaporated and whole milk, and hence the name. I was in Peru for my birthday a few years back and my husband brought this small chocolaty pastry to cut at midnight from a small café by where we were staying. I was so addicted to that pastry, I would go to the café everyday while we were there to enjoy this amazing treat. Here is my take on this soft, delicious, moist, chocolaty and creamy cake.
I decided to make this cake for a friend who absolutely loves desserts! I have never seen anyone enjoy desserts so much as she does. She goes in a zone, a different dimension and loses all sense of time and people around her when she is eating a dessert. I am not even exaggerating! It was her anniversary this weekend and I thought I would surprise her with this cake. Imagine a person more excited about the cake than her anniversary… that is my friend Shreya for you guys! 😀

| Chocolate Shavings | 1/2 cup |
How to make it:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degree F.
- Tip: Ensure that the eggs and butter are all at room temperature.
- Grease a cake pan with butter.
- Cream together sugar and butter which is at room temperature.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat until frothy.
-
Add the coffee liquor. Mix well.
- Sieve the flour, cocoa powder and baking powder. Add it to the liquids. Mix everything well.
- Pour the cake batter in the greased baking pan.
- Bake in the oven until a toothpick comes clean.
- Once out of the oven, let it cool completely.
- While the cake is cooling, mix the evaporated milk, whole milk, Nutella, and condensed milk together.
- Turn the cake and place it on a decorating board. Soak the cake with the milk mixture. The milk takes time to soak in the cake so wait for it to absorb and pour some more.
