Quick Palak Paneer

Palak paneer is an age old favorite in every Indian household. It is quite popular in the western countries as well and is mostly served in the restaurants as saag paneer. It is a delicious curry made with paneer/Indian cottage cheese cooked in a spinach gravy. It goes perfectly with a side of naan. 

What you will need:

Oil2 tablespoons
Onion1 cup
Palak2 cups
Paneer 300 grams
Salt1/2 teaspoon
Tomato Paste1 1/2 tablespoons
Turmeric1/2 teaspoon

How to make it:

  • Clean and wash the spinach. Make a paste using minimal water and set aside.
  • Sauté or grill the paneer until it has a golden brown exterior. Set aside.
  • To make the onion paste: Heat 1 tablespoons of oil. Sauté around 1 cup of onion until it is translucent. Let the mixture cool. Blend in a mixer to form a paste.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a kadai. Add cumin seeds and sauté for 30 seconds.
  • Next add the onion paste and sauté for 3 minutes. 
  • Add the tomato paste and sauté for another 5 minutes. 
  • Add the turmeric, cumin powder, and Kashmiri chili powder. Sauté for 30 sec to roast the spices. 
  • Add the palak paste and salt. Cover and cook until the palak changes color. It will turn from a bright green to a dark green.
  • Stir occasionally and ensure to cover the mixture since it tends to splatter.
  • Add the paneer and cook for another 5 minutes.
  • Serve with naan.
